FAUST made his bones on the tough streets of New York City with his best friend and graffiti partner SURE, who tragically passed in 2010. At the centre of a metropolitan art mecca, they shared the aim of going âall city,â having a recognised name in each of the five boroughs, and quickly became known for their huge throw-ups and distinctive calligraphy style.
Transcending the street, FAUST began collaborating with galleries and establishing himself within the design industry alongside companies like Apple, New Era, and Tiffany & Co, but he continued to keep SUREâs name alive with tags across NYC and never lost sight of where he came from. He keeps his face hidden, a poignant reminder that although he managed to smash the glass ceiling and find mainstream acclaim with his art, he still aligns himself with the street crews branded vandals and criminals by the city.
FAUSTâs Dunk blends streetwear with stateliness, a high-top shoe that evokes the Empire Stateâs two-sidedness â its immense commercial skyline and its street-level urban rawness. The inside panels are filled-in with elegant and opulent suede, whilst the outsides are dressed-up in a hardwearing, lustrous leather. Within the shoe resides a resplendent satin, and the underside a tough, rubber outsole â a melting pot of materials that, when put top-to-bottom, form the body of this bomb-ass Dunk.
Topping off, the outer is burning with detail designed by FAUST: a gold one-liner paying homage to SURE has the heaven spot on the lateral of the left shoe, and a matching swoosh is slammed at the medial. Black embroidery reading âAll That Mattersâ rolls across the rear of the right shoe, a shout out to FAUSTâs crew, and the laces of each are punctuated by a custom metal deubrĂ©.
